Diseases affecting the lungs and other parts of the respiratory system are called respiratory diseases. Respiratory diseases can be acute infectious diseases or chronic. Bacteria and viruses mostly cause infectious diseases. Chronic respiratory diseases are persistent and prolonged such as asthma, COPD, etc. Coronavirus disease caused due to exposure to SARS-COV-2 virus is also a respiratory illness and is characterized by symptoms like cold, fever, cough, breathlessness, etc.
