Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS): Medicaid & CHIP
Medicaid is a medical coverage program funded by the state and the federal government jointly. Low-income adults, pregnant women, elderly adults, children, and people with disabilities are eligible for this health coverage program administered by states, as per federal requirements. CHIP or the Childrenâs Health Insurance program extends comprehensive medical benefits to the children. These benefits vary from state to state as they have the flexibility to devise their own CHIP program but within the federal guidelines. The states can choose either a single program (Medicaid expansion program or separate CHIP) or a combination of both. Behavioral health care, dental care, vaccines, and well-child care are some of the benefits offered by CHIP.
