Tech may not be an easy solution to health systems' financial challenges

At HIMSS23, panelists discussed health systems’ financial challenges as labor costs rise and the population ages. According to panellists at the 2023 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition, health systems are facing a challenging financial future as labour prices rise and the population ages, increasing demand at a time when hospitals have fewer resources to meet it. Access worries Kaveh Safavi, senior managing director of healthcare at Accenture, that it will only become worse. Though he’s optimistic, that future might not come soon enough. Technology like generative AI could relieve some of the documentation and administrative strain on providers. “I genuinely believe that technology will provide us with a solution. I don’t think we’ll be able to benefit from it as rapidly as we need to, he said.
