Support Grows for Making the Hospital at Home Program Permanent

The study released by Mass General Brigham supports the Hospital at Home program’s safety and quality of care, showcasing lower mortality rates, reduced hospital returns, and shorter stays in skilled nursing facilities for patients across the country. With over 300 health systems launching CMS-approved Acute Hospital Care at Home (ACHaH) programs, advocates aim to make the temporary CMS waiver, enabling Medicare reimbursement for these programs, permanent. The study’s findings, analyzing nearly 5,900 patients nationwide, endorse the effectiveness of home-based care, motivating lobbying efforts to extend or permanently approve the waiver beyond its expiration this year. This influential research will be a focal point at CES 2024 in a panel titled “Revolutionizing Health Through Smart Home Innovation,” moderated by HealthLeaders Senior Editor Eric Wicklund.
