The Value of Sharing Health Data Between Acute Care and Post-Acute Care
PointClickCare, long a champion of interoperability in senior care, has extended its efforts into acute care and post-acute care integration. Brian Drozdowicz, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Acute & Payer Markets, alongside Chief Medical Officer Hamad Husainy, DO, FACEP, analyze the impact of new federal and state regulations and the growing importance of value-based care. Husainy notes that recent regulations enforce stricter interoperability requirements, highlighting PointClickCare’s achievement of the Certified EHR Technology (CEHRT) designation from the ONC. Moreover, ACOs and other value-based models are incentivized to share data, yielding tangible benefits like reducing hospital readmissions from 25% to 8% for their clients. Drozdowicz identifies the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) as a potential catalyst for further interoperability advancements, though the effectiveness of these standards remains to be fully evaluated.
